Durable Leadership
The most reliable source of pragmatic leadership insights.
Whoever said that leadership is simple but not easy was only half right. Leadership is definitely not easy.
We take a unique approach to our study of leadership. We see power, politics, and leadership as inextricably interconnected concepts. While an individual may exert power without holding a formal title, an individual cannot be a leader without having power. And the only way to build and protect your power base is to engage in politics.
What is power?
Power structures exist in all aspects of our lives. Yet it remains one of the most elusive concepts to define. In many cases, power is obtained and maintained through established formalized channels but not always.
In casual conversations, we assume that our interlocutor shares the same definition of “power” that we do. The nebulous yet simultaneously ubiquitous nature of the topic makes this a near impossibility.
- Is power something we possess?
- Does power only exist in the positions that we hold?
- Is power something we perform?
These questions are not easy to answer, to be sure.
While we are deeply interested in the specific form of power relating to business management, even that particular application is inextricably linked to the broader sociological constructions of power. To that end, here you will find our thinking on the topic of social power in all forms and across all disciplines.
We are dedicated to providing high-potential leadership development, practical leadership knowledge, and tools for maximizing (not managing) your employees’ unique talents to propel your career forward.
